Diabetic Group Clinics

Configure Appointment Details

What are Group Clinics?

A group consultation is a 90 minute face to face appointment compared to the usual 30 minute appointment. The consultation is run as a group session of no more than 10 people sharing the same medical condition, allowing you more time with the clinician to discuss any concerns. The group are then able to support each other and share ideas. You can also bring a carer or loved one with you.

Why should I attend a group clinic?

Patients get to spend longer with the clinician, allowing them more time and the extra benefit of learning from others.

Some patients feel alone when trying to manage their diabetes, being around other patients with the same condition and sharing experiences can help them feel less isolated.

Research shows that patients who attend group consultations achieve greater improvement in their weight management, blood pressure and blood sugar control compared with those who attend a traditional 1:1 appointment.

Confidentiality

There is a consent process in place, this helps to keep you and others safe and preserves the whole group’s confidentiality.

Please read the Group Clinic Confidentiality Agreement at the bottom of the page.

Genna - Group Clinic Facilitator

I am part of the Admin Team here at Cranleigh Gardens Medical Centre.

I have a special interest in Type 2 Diabetes, as both my Father and parternal Grandfather have been diagnosed with this condition.

Through my involment in the Diabetic Group Clinics, I am learning new ways to help them control their diabetes, and I am passionate to help guide our patients through their diagnosis, and management of their condition in any way we can.

Lucy - Diabetic Nurse

I have been a practice nurse at Cranleigh Gardens for 5 years, prior to this I worked as a district nurse in North Somerset.

I love working in primary care, as I am able to build meaningful relationships with my patients and support them to make changes which really improve their quality of life.

I am particularly passionate about diabetes care. People often tell me diabetes can feel overwhelming or isolating, which is why it is so important to bring people together in group clinics. Most of the positive feedback we have received, highlights just how much people have enjoyed learning from each other's experiences and I can honestly say I have learnt something new in every clinic we have done so far!

SJ - Health Coach

I have worked as a health coach for 7 years, prior to this, I had the pleasure of working in schools as a support worker. I have also run a homeless scheme working with care leavers, single parents and families in need of support. This along with my own personal situations, have allowed me to be able to empathise with people and suport them through their own struggles.

I love what I do and provide a non-judgmental caring approach and help people work out what is important to them and not what is wrong with them. I will never tell you what you can't do, only what you can do, and work with you to help find what works best for you.
